This event was co-organize by Department of Surveying to provide further understanding and exposure to the latest update on 3D mobile scanner which suitable to re-create a model of a piece of land/town, building or any related construction structure. Two representative of GPS Land Sdn Bhd was invited to conduct the talk regarding the technology update session on Using Laser Scanning System for Measured Building Survey.
The two guest speaker has arrived in UTAR at 1.40pm, 16th January 2019 and they started the talk session around 2.00pm at KB316. Most of the participants (around 57 QS Students) were ready to participate in the talk session as the topics presented were related to their area of studies. During the talk session, 2 lecturers from Surveying Department (Mr Azreen Zulkelfee and Dr. Kean Thong Ooi has accompanied the speaker throughout the day.
There were five models that were introduced by the GPS Land Sdn Bhd which are Airborne Laser Scanning, Mobile Laser Scanning, Unmanned Laser Scanning, Terrestrial Laser Scanning and Industrial Laser Scanning. Each of every one of them suits different purposes but the objective of conducting such scanning are to achieve a precise measurement of the subject and to re-create the model of the said subject.
These models stressed 3 main attributes such as (1) the safety of the handler and the scanning mechanism, (2) the quality of the results and (3) the effectiveness of the process. Mostly, it would brings lost of benefits and advantages to the user as it may reduced schedule cycle time for data gathering, promotes work sharing, reduce travel, reduced contingencies for rework, reducing time onsite for inspection and advance interference and clash detection. The guest speaker also has brought along all the scanning system to be display to the participants.
The talk session ended somewhere around 3.30 PM and the speakers was presented with the token of appreciation by UTAR as a gift by providing such useful informations and updates to the participants.
